Imperial Treasure La Mian Xiao Long Bao, Singapore 2

On February 25, 2008, Linda and I went back to Imperial Treasure La Mian Xiao Long Bao. We had really enjoyed it the day before and its convenience before our flight later that day was a factor. It is in the enormous Marina Square Shopping Center which is on reclaimed land just southeast of the old heart of Singapore. Our hotel, the Marina Mandarin, is connected to it by a third story bridge so we did not have to go out into the high midday heat and humidity. The Imperial Treasure group was started two years ago to compete with the large and enormously popular Crystal Jade group of restaurants. The second part of this restaurant’s English name is two of its specialties. La Mian are hand-pulled noodles and Xiao Long Bao are soup-filled dumplings.
We were promptly seated and ordered two Tiger beers.
Our starter was Egg white with fish meat and egg yolk. This was served in a bowl as you can see. The server has just added Chinese vinegar to the raw yolk. She then stirred them into the cooked egg whites and shredded fish. She divided it into our small bowls and we ate it with a Chinese spoon. It was a nice delicate starter.
Then we had the La Mian pork and vegetable wonton soup. This was also served in a large bowl and divided into our small bowls. One eats it with chopsticks, which was a bit messy in my case. The flavors were very pleasant..
We had Egg yolk baked live prawns. The egg yolk batter seals in the flavor of the prawns. It is much heavier than a tempura batter and added heft to the dish. We were allowed to use a knife and fork for this one.
