Zoagli

October 24, 2007

(October 11, 2007) We decided to take a leisurely two-overnights’ drive to Florence. zoagli-4-300x225.jpgOur first stop was Zoagli, just east of the spit of land that includes Portofino. It is also a fishing village but one without the tourists and associated trappings. No cars are allowed in the town square so all must park outside and walk in. The boats leave right from the main square, which is ringed with a few cafes and stores but mainly with apartments.zoagli-5-300x225.jpg

We stayed in the Castello Canevaro (www.castellocanevaro.it) on a bluff looking down at the town and with a sweeping view of the sea, from the Cinque Terre to Portofino.

Dinner took us on a concrete walkway from town, around various bluffs, through a little water, and then up to L’Arnella. It can also be reached from above by footpaths and stairs but not by car.zoagli-3-300x200.jpg

We ordered a lobster risotto, which was served on the “half shell,” and was superb. It was also a bargain at 38€ for both of us.
